How to Begin Praying for Your Wife

How to Begin Praying for Your Wife

First, Pray for Yourself:

  1. That you would become a man after God’s own heart.
  2. That you would understand how to truly love your wife.
  3. That you would be led by the Holy Spirit in every area of your life.
  4. That you would be set free from negative behaviors.
  5. That your words would build up, not tear down.
  6. That you would develop a desire to pray for your wife.
  7. That you would grow spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.

Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10).

Reveal to me any attitudes or thoughts that do not please You—especially in how I treat my wife.
When I refuse to forgive, show me that it is sin.

Help me lay aside anger, and do not let impurity have any place in my heart.
If there is anything in my behavior that needs to change, bring it to light and help me make lasting change.
Whatever You reveal to me, I am willing to surrender to You.

Make me a man after Your heart, so that I may lead my home and family as You intended when You created me.

Lord, show me how to truly cover (wife’s name) in prayer.
Help me live with her in understanding and honor her, so that my prayers will not be hindered (see 1 Peter 3:7).

Renew our love for one another and heal anything that could cause division.
Give me patience, kindness, and compassion, so I may love her with gentleness and humility, just as Your Word calls me to do (see 1 Peter 3:8).

Teach me to love her the way You love her.

Lord, lead (wife’s name) and me into a new level of unity.
Make us one in heart and purpose.
Show me what I need to do to make this a reality.

Give me words that bring healing, not harm.
Let Your love fill my heart so that my mouth overflows with encouragement instead of destruction.

When I am not living according to Your Word, convict my heart and show me that it is sin.
Help me become the man—and the husband—that You desire me to be.
